Date Ideas in Springville and Spanish Fork

Art City, canyon picnics, a famous rodeo week, and the quieter south end of Utah County.

By the Rove Dating team · Updated October 7, 2026

Springville and Spanish Fork sit just south of Provo, close enough for a weeknight and different enough to feel like a change of scene. Springville calls itself Art City for a reason. Spanish Fork opens straight into a canyon with hot springs, a reservoir, and one of the county's longest-running summer festivals.

Here are date ideas that stay on the south end of the valley, from a free art museum to a soak at the end of a hike.

Springville: Art City

Springville Museum of Art

Utah's first art museum, founded in 1903, with free admission and a permanent collection that is much stronger than most people expect from a small-city museum. It is an easy first date: public, quiet, and finished in about an hour if you want it to be.

Hobble Creek Canyon

The canyon opens directly off the east side of Springville. The drive is pretty, the picnic pullouts sit along the creek, and Kelly's Grove is a simple place to eat lunch without the traffic of Provo Canyon. It is especially good in the fall.

Art City Days

Springville's community festival lands in early June, with a parade, carnival, fireworks, and a hot-air balloon launch that is the most photographed thing in town that week. Treat it as the date, not a side errand.

World Folkfest

In late July, Springville hosts an international folk-dance festival with ticketed evening performances. If it is on the calendar, it is one of the more distinctive date nights in the county.

Spanish Fork: canyon and festival town

Fifth Water Hot Springs

Up Diamond Fork Canyon east of Spanish Fork, the hike from the Three Forks trailhead ends at milky-blue pools and small waterfalls. It is a few miles round trip, popular, and better early or on a weekday. Pack out what you bring, and check trailhead and water conditions before you go.

Spanish Oaks Reservoir

A swimming reservoir with a sand beach at the mouth of the canyon. In warm months it is a simple afternoon date: towels, snacks, and a clear end time when you have had enough sun.

Fiesta Days

Spanish Fork's week around Pioneer Day in late July, including a multi-night PRCA rodeo at the fairgrounds, a parade, carnival, and fireworks. Buy rodeo seats ahead. It is a great group or double date if a quiet first date is not the goal.

Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple

A hilltop temple on the south side of Spanish Fork, known statewide for the spring Festival of Colors. The grounds are a striking place to walk and take in the view. Check visitor hours before you go, and treat it as a respectful visit, not a photo prop.

Easy south-county plans

You do not need a festival weekend to make this work. A Springville Museum of Art visit plus a picnic in Hobble Creek Canyon is a complete Saturday. Canyon View Park, at the mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon, is a good warm-weather picnic spot and connects to the Spanish Fork River Trail.

Keep first dates shorter than a full hot-springs hike. Save Fifth Water for when you already know you both like being outdoors for a few hours. A museum hour plus a creek picnic is plenty.

Name the town, the place, and the time. "Springville Museum of Art Saturday at 11, then Hobble Creek if the weather holds" is an easy yes from Provo or Orem. South county is close. It just needs a plan.
